Brad Stevens and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week

Brad Stevens always seems so calm, no matter the situation. We may be seeing some cracks in the steely façade of the Celtics’ head coach.

Thursday, during an appearance with Zolak & Bertrand on 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston, Stevens was asked about the state of his team, having suffered an 0-3 road trip in a four-night stretch.

“I was actually just telling my wife … I had a root canal, and my identity stolen last week, and those were actually two of my better days in the last eight days.”

Yikes. Having one of those things happen is a bad week. Both in the same week is among your worst nightmares. But having both of those things occur, and they are the highlights of your week?

The Celtics have been without Marcus Smart the entire month of February with a calf strain, and are 5-9 in the games he has missed.

But if you have two All-Stars in your starting lineup like Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown – each of whom average better than 25 points a night – you aren’t going to get a lot of sympathy from the rest of the league.

The issue seems to be late in games. Boston has already lost five games this season when they’ve led entering the fourth quarter. Only two teams have more: the Hawks and the Timberwolves.

We hope Stevens has a better week than he did last week, as long as his team doesn’t.
