Union sign German midfielder Kevin Kratz

The Union on Thursday added a reinforcement for their playoff push by signing German midfielder Kevin Kratz.

“Kevin provides us valuable depth in multiple positions across our midfield," Union sporting director Earnie Stewart said in a statement released by the team. “His experience and mentality are a good addition to our group.”

Kratz, 29, comes from SV Sandhausen in Germany, where he played in 2015-16. He's played in 277 career games, 122 of which have been in Bundesliga's first and second division, with Kratz notching four goals and 13 assists.

Kratz transferred to SV Sandhausen following the 2013-14 season.

The Union visit the Portland Timbers on Saturday for a 6 p.m. match. Jim Curtin's club is in fourth place of the Eastern Conference with an eight-point cushion for a playoff spot.
