Hal “Hotsy” Reinfeld, one of the captains of Temple University's 1956 Final Four team, died Monday evening at the age of 86.
Reinfeld was a three-year starter for Temple and was named to the first-ever All-Philadelphia Big 5 first team for the 1955-56 season.
“They do not come any better than Hotsy Reinfeld,” Temple head coach Fran Dunphy said in a statement. “He was a wonderful man with a great attitude and outlook on life. I admired him greatly.”
Reinfeld was a senior captain along with Hal Lear on that Final Four team. He averaged 7.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per game that season for the Owls, who finished 27-4 and were ranked No. 13 by the Associated Press. Reinfeld averaged 7.6 points during his three seasons (72 games) on North Broad Street.
