The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets were on track to extend Friday’s stalemate deep into Saturday morning. It seemed entirely plausible this baseball game was never going to end.
Then Mets rightfielder Chris Young misplayed the routine-est of fly balls with zero outs in the bottom of the 14th inning, and even though this is the Phillies we’re talking about, at that point there was no delaying the inevitable. A few batters later, something called Reid Brignac raked a bases-loaded single, and the Fightins were walk-off winners by a 6-5 final after a swift five hours and 23 minutes that seemed to just fly by if you were doing something other than watching.
I guess this goes to show that no matter how bad things get for the Phils, we still have the LOLMets. With the victory, Philadelphia moves into a fourth-place tie in the NL East with… the Mets. Damn.

On second thought, you know what? These two teams deserve each other. And now, for our viewing pleasure, this five-game series will continue until Monday.
In all seriousness though, good win for the Phillies—unless you’re actively rooting for them to lose, which some of you undoubtedly are. A.J. Burnett struck out 11, and the bullpen combined to pitch seven scoreless innings. Domonic Brown belted a three-run homer, while Jimmy Rollins, Carlos Ruiz and Brignac contributed multi-hit games.
Plus, Brignac got to play the hero, which good for him, whoever he is. He should probably send a thank you note or get well soon card to Chris Young though.
