Joel Embiid sets off verbal fireworks on July 4 directed at LaVar Ball

Verbal fireworks on July 4? Sounds about right.

Joel Embiid took to Instagram Live on Independence Day and, well, he had some harsh words for the patriarch of the Ball family.

"F--- LaVar Ball," Embiid said in a 20-second clip captured by TMZ Sports. It appeared as if Embiid was wasting time during a rainstorm in Philadelphia before a fireworks show, chatting with fans, and the comments were prompted when The Process was asked about LaVar's recent shots at the Sixers.

It was only the latest in an ongoing feud between members of the Sixers' process and the father of Los Angeles Lakers guard Lonzo Ball. Last week, LaVar made an appearance on 97.5 The Fanatic's midday show, telling Embiid and Ben Simmons to "get [their] asses off the goddamn Tweeter and get in the gym."

The back-and-forth started all the way back in May when Simmons' sister first took a shot at the eventual No. 2 overall selection in this year's draft.

It continued on draft night when Simmons himself and Embiid only added fuel to the fire.

If this is the start of a new on-court rivalry between the Sixers and Lakers, I can only imagine what else LaVar Ball will have to say.
