"This is a bad night," Phillies play-by-play announcer Tom McCarthy said as fans at home watched the circus unfold last night in Baltimore.

It was a bad night in an awful season that was encapsulated most tremendously by the truly ridiculous moment in the 8th inning of the 19-3 loss to the Orioles when Ryne Sandberg and pitching coach Bob McClure couldn't even take the laboring Jeff Francoeur out of the game with the bases loaded and one out because... wait for it... the bullpen phone was off the hook.

They couldn't get another arm ready.

This is something you'd expect to see in Major League the movie, not the major leagues. The white towel waving took it to another level:
