Why aren't the Eagles favored over Falcons? Because everyone hates Philly

The Philadelphia Eagles, despite a 13-3 record and home field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs, are a 3-point underdog on Saturday to the Atlanta Falcons. And if you’re not absolutely up in arms about that, you should be.

The reason the Falcons are favored is simple: The NFL, and all of its pundits, commentators, announcers, oddmakers and (especially) referees, hate the Eagles, the city of Philadelphia, and every one of its fans. They don’t think Philadelphia fans are good enough to provide a home field advantage because, as always, their contempt for us is limitless.

You may think the Eagles are an underdog because Carson Wentz is injured and Nick Foles looked extremely shaky the last two games of the season. But we all know that’s not true. The real reason is that the league hates Philly. Exhibit A: The Christmas Day game, when the broadcasters mentioned the snowballs/Santa Claus story roughly every five minutes.

You’re not taking it personally? Why not?

When national commentators say "Nick Foles isn't good enough at this point to win a playoff game," what they really mean is "Philadelphia is a bad city and its fans are bad people.”

And it’s not even just national guys. Inquirer columnist Mike Sielski wrote last week, using some statistical formula that I don’t understand, that the Eagles’ home field advantage is a “myth,” and that Philly actually has less of a historic home field advantage than most cities. What’s that guy thinking, insulting his own city’s fans?

The Eagles are going to win Saturday. I know it, you know it, and every local columnist, national columnist and oddsmaker knows it too. This is Philadelphia!

This town has no tolerance for negativity.

Other Philly Sports Takes:

-Isn’t it fun to watch Andy Reid blow it in the playoffs... and knowing the Eagles aren’t in any way affected?

-This whole “Bills Mafia” thing is really cute. The Buffalo fans think they invented fan passion, as expressed via parking lot tailgate mayhem?

-ESPN fired Donovan McNabb last Friday, after his name surfaced in a sexual harassment investigation. If only the Eagles had dumped Donovan on a Friday night in January- they might have won a Super Bowl.

-The Phillies tweeted out a picture of their list of offseason accomplishments:

-Glad to hear Markelle Fultz has entered his “final stage” of rehab, which means he’ll likely return to action for the Sixers at some point in November or December.
