TORONTO (AP) Kevin Payne has been fired as Toronto FC's president and general manager, the ousted soccer executive said Wednesday.
"I wish TFC and its supporters all the best," Payne said in a text message to The Canadian press. "I'm confident the team is in a great position heading into next year and I'm proud of that. I understand the desire to move forward in a different direction and want nothing but the best for the club."
The Major League Soccer club hasn't announced the firing.
The 60-year-old Payne joined the team in late November after a long successful run with D.C. United.
Toronto is tied for 18th in the 19-team league a 4-12-10.
