LONDON (AP) Spanish left-hander Feliciano Lopez upset second-seeded Tomas Berdych 6-4, 7-6 (7) to reach the Queen's Club semifinals on Friday.
The match was close throughout, with Lopez edging the opening set after breaking to lead 3-2 on his fifth break point.
In the second set, Berdych failed to convert a break point to lead 3-1 and held three set-points in the tiebreaker at 6-3 and another at 7-6 before double-faulting on his Lopez's first match point.
Lopez next plays another Czech, Radek Stepanek, who rallied after dropping the first set to beat seventh-seeded South African Kevin Anderson 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Anderson fired seven aces and he broke serve twice to take the opening set. But a break for 2-0 by Stepanek decided the second set, and two breaks in the third earned the Czech his first ATP semifinal since Memphis in February 2012.
"I had a slow start, but I wouldn't call it a slow start because (the way) Kevin played the first set, it was a perfect game of tennis," Stepanek said. "For a half hour I really had no chance. He hit every shot perfectly.
"I just had to wait until the first weaker moment came, and take my chance, which happened in the first of his service games in the second set. I got in front, and ran through those two sets pretty comfortably."
Eighth seed Alexandr Dolgopolov from Ukraine withdrew after injuring his right thigh during a second-round doubles on Thursday, forcing him and partner Ernests Gulbis to retire.
His opponent, fourth-seeded Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, received a walkover into the semifinals, where he will play either top seed Stanislas Wawrinka or Marinko Matosevic.
