BALTIMORE --- Jason Garcia is the 10th Orioles player to land on the disabled list. Seven are currently on the DL. Garcia joins Everth Cabrera (bruised right foot), Ryan Flaherty (groin), Kevin Gausman (shoulder), Jonathan Schoop (right knee), Matt Wieters (right elbow) and Wesley Wright (left shoulder).
J.J. Hardy, David Lough and Jimmy Paredes all began the season on the DL and have successfully rehabbed. Flaherty is in his second stint.
Manager Buck Showalter isn’t alarmed by the number. Last year, seven major league players were on the DL: Wieters, Chris Davis, Miguel Gonzalez, Tommy Hunter, Ubaldo Jimenez, Manny Machado and Bud Norris.
Machado was on the disabled list twice.
Showalter is sanguine about the injuries.
“We’re going to get them back. It’s not like they’re going away,” Showalter said. “You hope they’re kind of spread out. Some years you have them where they’re spread out, one-by-one.”
Last year, the injuries were much more spaced.
“It’s frustrating, it’s a challenge. I don’t know that Toronto wants to hear about it. They don’t have one or two guys [hurt]. Obviously, 10 is a big number,” Showalter said.
Flaherty had a Platelet Rich Plasma injection for his sore right groin. He’ll be going to Sarasota this weekend. He had an MRI on Tuesday.
“There was nothing there that was more than a groin problem,” Showalter said.
NOTES: Brian Matusz was unavailable the last two days because of a bruised left thumb. He’s fine now, Showalter said. … Hunter Harvey was scheduled for an MRI on his right elbow on Wednesday afternoon. … Cabrera is going to Norfolk on a rehab assignment. He’ll be eligible to be return on May 22.
