Ravens defensive end Brent Urban has suffered a torn biceps muscle that could force him to miss the 2015 season, CSN Baltimore has confirmed. It is expected to take Urban about three months to recover. The injury reportedly happened Thursday during a low contact drill in practice. Urban did not practice Friday, and no update was given on his condition after practice.
The Ravens must decide whether to deactivate Urban for the season, or place him on the injured reserve – designated to return list, which would allow him to come back later this season. However, safety Matt Elam, who suffered a torn biceps last week, is another potential candidate for the injured reserve – designated to return list. A team can only designate one player for injured reserve-designated to return
This is Urban’s second major training camp injury in two seasons with the Ravens. After being drafted in the fourth round in 2014, Urban suffered a season ending torn ACL in training camp.
Urban was expected to challenge Chris Canty for the starting job at defensive end. Now the decision to re-sign Canty after waiving him during the offseason looks even more important. Lawrence Guy becomes the most likely backup to Canty at defensive end, with Kapron Lewis-Moore and DeAngelo Tyson battling for a roster spot at defensive end.
