Just like Joe Flacco, Johnny Manziel will be trying to quarterback his team to its first victory Sunday.
The Browns have officially named Manziel the starter for Sunday’s home game against the Titans. Who knows what to expect from Manziel, making his third NFL start? Manziel committed three turnovers in the second half during a Week 1 loss to the Jets – an interception and two fumbles. However, Browns quarterback Josh McCown remained in the league’s concussion protocol Friday and was not cleared for practice.
That made Manziel the obvious choice to start Sunday, and eyes will be watching. It’s a matchup between two former Heisman winning quarterbacks – Manziel and Marcus Mariota of the Titans. Mariota was superb Week 1, throwing four touchdown passes during a victory over the Buccaneers.
The Ravens (0-1) have reason to root against Manziel and the Browns, an AFC North rival. Despite losing their opener in Denver, the Ravens didn’t lose much ground in the division. The Bengals were the only AFC North team to win Week 1, with the Browns, Ravens, and Steelers all starting the season 0-1.
Manziel has not convinced the Browns that their decision to draft him was the right one. Right now, they would settle for a solid performance from Manziel and a victory on Sunday.
