Ravens starting defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan is a game-day inactive, costing the Ravens one of their key defensive starters for the season-opener against Peyton Manning and the Broncos.
Jernigan, who injured his knee in the Ravens preseason game against Washington, returned to practice this week and had expressed optimism that he would play. But he was listed as doubtful on the official injury report on Friday. With Jernigan out, rookie Carl Davis is expected to start in his first regular-season NFL game.
Backup cornerback Rashaan Melvin, who was listed as doubtful (thigh), is also inactive. That leaves Kyle Arrington and rookie Tray Walker as the only backup cornerbacks behind Jimmy Smith and Lardarius Webb.
The Ravens other inactives include offensive lineman Ryan Jensen, defensive lineman Christo Bilukidi, linebacker Za’Darius Smith, rookie receiver Breshad Perriman and running back Lorenzo Taliaferro. Perriman (knee) and Taliaferro (knee) had already both been ruled out on Friday.
The Broncos inactives include quarterback Trevor Siemian, cornerback Curtis Marsh, cornerback Loerenzo Doss, linebacker Lerentee McCray, guard Shelley Smith, tight end Mitchell Henry and defensive end Kenny Anunike.
