OWINGS MILLS - The Ravens have cut wide receiver Jeremy Butler, CSN Mid-Atlantic has confirmed, after first being reported by NFL Network.
Being released was a disappointment for Butler, who looked good during minicamps before fading once training camp began. Butler could still be on the Ravens’ practice squad if not signed by another team. However, releasing Butler left the Ravens with six wide receivers heading into Week 1 against the Broncos – Steve Smith, Breshad Perriman, Marlon Brown, Michael Campanaro, Kamar Aiken, and rookie Darren Waller.
It will be interesting to see how those Ravens receivers are utilized. Perriman (knee) missed Saturday’s practice and has not practiced since late July. That makes his availability for the season-opener highly questionable.
Asked if Perriman would practice next week after the Ravens took Sunday and Monday off, Ravens coach John Harbuagh said, “I don’t know. I really don’t have the answer for that. I think he has a chance, yes. But to what degree, that’s wide open right now. I don’t know.”
Smith has looked terrific during the preseason. But which other wide receivers will get the most reps? Butler did not show the Ravens enough during camp and preseason games to remain part of that conversation.
