Add the name Percy Harvin to the Ravens wide receiver rumor mill.
According to Pro Football Talk, Harvin’s possible scenarios include joining the Ravens or re-signing with the Bills.
Perhaps Harvin is Plan B in case the Ravens don’t sign Mike Wallace, another free agent wide receiver they are interested in. The Ravens need to add speed to their lineup. While Wallace and Harvin have seen their production slip in recent years, both still have the speed to produce occasion big plays, especially if united with a deep ball thrower like Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco.
If the Ravens decide to add Harvin, they can’t be shocked if he doesn’t stay healthy. Harvin has missed a total of 36 games over the past four seasons, dealing with a variety of injuries. He only played five games with the Bills last season and produced just 19 catches for 218 yards and one touchdown.
Harvin is still only 27 years old, so it’s conceivable he could have good seasons left. However, the fact he has been with the Vikings, Seahawks, Jets, and Bills since 2012 tells you he hasn’t been anyone’s long-term solution.
Wallace may be the Ravens’ preference over Harvin, but they are not going to sign either player if they believe they are overpaying. However, it’s clear that the Ravens, after finishing 5-11, are exploring many options to try and upgrade their roster.
