Free agent quarterback Ryan Mallett will sign with the Ravens, according to an ESPN report. Mallet worked out for the Ravens last week and was not immediately signed. However, the Ravens are looking for a backup quarterback for Joe Flacco next season, and have likely not settled on either Matt Schaub or Jimmy Clausen.
Mallett was cut by the Texans earlier this season after missing a team flight, and falling out of favor with the coaching staff. However, scouts have been impressed with Mallett’s arm strength for years, and the Ravens may feel they can unlock Mallett’s potential. Signing Mallet is a low-risk move that could pay dividends next season.
Harbaugh was not ready to confirm Mallett would sign during the coach's Monday press conference. However, Harbaugh was impressed with Mallett's workout.
"No, I can't confirm it," Harbaugh said. "I haven't been informed of that. We worked him out a couple of weeks ago, he had a good workout. He had some personal things that he had to work through. If that happens in the near future, that'd be great. If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen, but that's not something that I've been told that we've done."
