BALTIMORE – Steve Smith threw up on the Ravens sideline Sunday, took an IV during the game, yet still delivered a brilliant performance with 13 catches for 186 yards and two touchdowns.
However, Smith felt much worse after the game. The Ravens dropped to 0-3 after Sunday’s loss to the Bengals, and at age 36, Smith’s final NFL season is quickly becoming a nightmare.
Asked about his stomach issues, Smith said, “When you’re old like this, the first thing that goes is your stomach. As (Justin) Forsett said, I got grandpa guts. I kind of stretched myself for breakfast. I went on some different kind of carbs and I didn’t work. I got to bland foods.”
Smith said he had taken an IV during a game before, but has always tried to avoid it, despite having a nervous stomach on game days.
“I try to keep my veins for when I need them,” Smith said.
As for his brilliant performance, Smith had little to say.
"We lost as a team,” Smith said. “We have to deal with that as a team. We got to put our tissues away and get ready to practice and play.”
