SANTA CLARA - As usual, Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith was to-the-point following Sunday’s loss to the 49ers.
Asked how baffled he was that the Ravens were 1-5, Smith responded this way.
“It’s tough, it’s agonizing, we feel like we’re just banging our heads into a brick wall,” Smith said. “ But nobody’s going to come save us. We can’t make any excuses. Once you accept that jersey after they put out the inactives, you have the responsibility to do your job. All of us do. When we win as a team ,we celebrate. When we lose as a team, we have to fix those things.
"Nobody cares, why, or what happened. All they want us to do, our fans, is fix it and win games. And that’s what we have to do.”
Smith (back injury) said he knew he was going to play Friday, even though he told reporters he was not optimistic.
“I’m actually smarter than a few of you guys,” Smith said. “I was just manipulating you, and you guys fell into it.”
Asked if the Ravens were an easy fix, Smith said. “If you’re 1-5, that’s not an easy fix."
Smith had a touchdown catch, but had two other opportunities in the end zone that he got his hands on the but did not hold. Smith said he should have caught the first of those chances .but he said the other potential touchdown grab was more difficult.
“The one I dropped, I wish I had very valid reason that I dropped it, but I just dropped it,” Smith said. “The second one, it looked easier than what it was. It may have hit my hands, but my face was in the grass”
