BALTIMORE – Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith (back) was inactive for Sunday’s game against the Browns, as expected. However, running back Lorenzo Taliaferro (foot) was a surprise inactive, after being listed as probable on Friday.
Along with Smith and Taliaferro, defensive end Chris Canty, tight end Crockett Gillmore, cornerback Rashaan Melvin, offensive lineman Ryan Jensen, and wide receiver Breshad Perriman were also inactive for the Ravens.
Two wide receivers would make their Ravens debut – Chris Givens, who was acquired in a trade with the Rams, and Jeremy Ross, who was promoted from the practice squad.
The Ravens spent the past week getting Givens up to speed on their system, hoping his speed as a deep threat would help them immediately. How much Givens plays against the Browns may depend on how comfortable he feels after just a few days practicing with the team.
Ross was expected to take over as the kickoff returner with Michael Campanaro lost for the season after injuring his back against the Steelers.
Without Gillmore for the second straight game, the Ravens tight end duties would once again be handled by two rookies – Maxx Gillmore and Nick Boyle. Meanwhile, Buck Allen would replace Taliaferro as the backup running back behind Justin Forsett.
For the Browns, cornerback Joe Haden was active, but wide receiver Dwayne Bowe and safety Tashaun Gipson were both inactive.
