OWINGS MILLS – Three questions to ask as the Ravens prepare to announce their final cuts and 53-man roster:
1. Should general manager Ozzie Newsome add a couple of vets before Week 1?
Newsome is a master at manipulating the roster, and there are a few spots where the Ravens could use more experienced depth. Adding a veteran running back behind starter Justin Forsett is a possibility. Buck Allen has ever played an NFL snap, and injured Lorenzo Taliaferro (knee) has just one year of experience.
2. Who’s the primary No. 2 receiver opposite Steve Smith?
Training camp and the preseason have ended, and we still don’t know. With Breshad Perriman (knee) missing all but one training camp practice, quarterback Joe Flacco must hope that Michael Campanaro, Marlon Brown, and other receivers are ready step up Week 1 at Denver.
3. Is the cornerback position still a concern?
Lardarius Webb didn’t play during the preseason, and Jimmy Smith is coming back from foot surgery. Those are the Ravens’ starters, and when other corners played during the preseason, the pass coverage was not exactly stellar. Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is going to find out quickly if the Ravens’ secondary is really improved. And the Ravens only have about one more week to get ready.
