OWINGS MILLS – New Ravens safety Eric Weddle showed up with a new look at his introductory press conference. His signature long beard had been seriously trimmed. And people want to know why.
“You’re like the eighth person who has said that to me, and I’m regretting it by the second, that I shaved it,” Weddle said. “It was a spur-of-the-moment (decision). I was working out one morning, and I got done, and it was just everywhere. There was sweat and water and who knows -- probably bugs in there. I’m like, ‘What am I doing? I look ridiculous right now.’ So, I came home, and I told Chanel (his wife), I’m like, ‘Babe, I’m cutting this thing.’
“She was like, ‘No, you’ve got to wait. You’ve got to do something cool.’ I’m like, ‘I’m cutting it. Let’s do this.’ So, it was almost three years I had it. It was awesome. Luckily in the NFL, they don’t care what you look like as long as you play good.”
Weddle said the long beard might return.
“I might have to bring it back now. I’m getting too many people asking me. I need to bring it back, but I might get more kisses from my wife (if I don’t), so that’s always a plus.”
