OWINGS MILLS – Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome confirmed Tuesday that outsider linebacker Terrell Suggs will return for a 15th season. Suggs had already stated that he planned to come back, after leading the team in sacks with eight at age 34 despite playing most of the season with a torn biceps.
Newsome said Suggs still brings intangibles that are difficult to replace, in addition to his talent. He is already under contract for next season with a base salary of $4 million.
“We all want Sizz back,” Newsome said at the Ravens' season-ending press conference. “Sizz brings another element, not only with his performance on the field, but with his leadership. As (defensive coordinator) Dean Pees said, ‘When Siz is at practice, practice is different. When he’s not, then it’s different.’ You’re talking about a guy that played with two injuries at the end of the year. He had the bicep and he had the elbow. And we still out there giving 100 percent. He’s had some great discussions with John about what his plans are for this offseason. But we expect him to be back.”
Suggs has been a member of the Ravens since the team drafted the former Arizona State star with the 10th overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft.
