The Capitals will look to end their two-game slide and hand the New Jersey Devils their first loss of the season on Friday (7 p.m., NBC Sports Washington).
Here are three bold predictions for the game.
1. Tom Wilson will get a point
Wilson has served his four-game suspension and will make his return to the lineup. If there is a silver lining to the fact that he is now in the crosshairs of the Department of Player Safety, it is that he will now be forced to focus on his offensive production rather than his physical play. Washington needs more offense out of Wilson and Friday he will respond with at least a point.
2. Both teams will combine for eight goals or more
It’s early, but Washington and New Jersey are two of the top-scoring teams in the NHL. Add in the fact that the Caps are struggling on defense and we should see plenty of goals on Friday.
3. Washington will have more power plays than penalty kills
Penalties are a concern for the Caps, but they actually aren’t among the most penalized teams in the league. In fact, they rank 15th in penalty minutes per games played with 11:00. New Jersey, on the other hand is 29th at 18:39. For the first time this season, the Caps will finally have the advantage in penalties.
