COLUMBUS, Ohio -- In response to a question by CSN following Maryland’s 49-28 loss to No. 1 Ohio State, head coach Randy Edsall abruptly left his postgame press conference.
Below is the transcribed exchange, including the question that proceeded CSN’s question for greater context.
Reporter: "I apologize asking this question, but do you expect to be coaching the next game?"
Edsall: "I'm going to go on the bus. I'm going to watch the film. Those are things I don't control. All I can do is get these kids to be the best they can be. And develop them. And keep getting them better. I don't make those decisions. Somebody else makes those decisions. As long as I'm the coach all I'm going to do is do my job, do it the way I've been doing it, do it the way I've been asked to do, and that's what I'm going to continue to do. Because the number one thing is these kids. That's what's most important. That's what everyone always needs to remember is it's about these kids and what the college experience is and develop them as people, as students and athletes. That's what we're going to continue to do."
CSN: "In pregame you shared handshakes with your guys as they stretched. Is that something you typically do every game, go around while they're stretching and shake hands?"
Edsall: "Have you been to any of the games since I've been the head coach here at the University of Maryland?"
CSN: "Yes sir."
Edsall: "If you would notice, I do that every single game. Every single game out of the respect I have for those kids and what they go through. Every single game."
Edsall then exited the press conference.
