Former four-star recruit Adam McLean is no longer enrolled at the University of Maryland, according to a program spokesperson.
An "initial NCAA eligibility issue" bars him from enrolling and, because of that, he is also no longer listed on the team's football roster.
The issue is academic in nature, meaning that possibility of McLean returning in the future is not off the table.
McLean, a former Penn State commit and native of Maryland, had been part of the program's push to keep top talent at home. He was not expected to play this season as he continued to recover from an injury he had suffered during high school.
Maryland four-star quarterback commit Dwayne Haskins tweeted words of encouragement in the wake of the news. McLean retweeted the tweet.
UMD fans don't worry, Adam will be back soon.

McLean then sent his own tweet shortly thereafter.
I will be back in no time couple months and I am back in the red black and yellow
