The Redskins placed running back LeShun Daniels on the injured reserve, remarkably the fifth running back to land on the IR this season.
That's right, five running backs with season ending injuries in Washington this season.
Here's the list:
- Chris Thompson
- Robert Kelley
- Byron Marshall
- Keith Marshall
- LeShun Daniels
Daniels broke his hand earlier this week, in a tale that Redskins coach Jay Gruden seemed exasperated when he explained.
"He was fielding a kickoff and it bounced and he went to pick the ball up and broke his hand," Gruden said. "This guy broke his hand picking the ball up."
Across the entire roster, the Redskins have been hit tremendously hard by injuries this season. Daniels marks the 20th player to land on the injured reserve in 2017.
For Sunday's game, Washington will hope to get a full game out of rookie RB Samaje Perine, who is dealing with a groin injury. After practice on Friday, Perine said he planned to play through the injury "unless coach shut me down."
After Perine, the Redskins have Kapri Bibbs on the active roster along with Dare Ogunbowale. Neither Bibbs or Ogunbowale were on the roster last month.
With Daniels on IR, the Redskins signed Kenny Hilliard. He spent much of training camp and the preseason in Washington.
