CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) Trey Burke scored 19 points and No. 2 Michigan never trailed after the opening minutes of a 74-60 win Sunday over Illinois that could push the Wolverines to No. 1 in the nation for the first time since the 1992-93 season.

Duke's lopsided loss to Miami earlier in the week opened the door for a new No. 1 when the AP poll comes out Monday - and Michigan put itself in position to take the top spot.

Nick Stauskas scored 14 points for the Wolverines (19-1, 6-1 Big Ten). Glenn Robinson III and Tim Hardaway Jr. added 12 each.

Brandon Paul led Illinois (15-6, 2-5) with 15 points but had five of Illinois' 15 costly turnovers.

Michigan forward Jordan Morgan did not return after leaving early with a sprained right ankle, but the Wolverines hardly missed him.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Victor Oladipo took control for No. 7 Indiana in the opening minutes and never let go.

The junior guard scored 21 points, grabbed seven rebounds and finished with six steals, leading the Hoosiers to a victory over No. 13 Michigan State.

Indiana (18-2, 6-1 Big Ten) has now won three straight and two in a row in this series. The latest win helped break up the three-team logjam that started the day with only one loss each in conference play.

Michigan State (17-4, 6-2) was led by Gary Harris, Indiana's 2012 Mr. Basketball, who had 21 points and made five 3-pointers. Adreian Payne added 18 points and nine rebounds and doubled his season total by making three 3s.

CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) - Doug McDermott had 21 points and 10 rebounds and No. 17 Creighton shot 63 percent, bouncing back from a pair of road losses with an easy victory at struggling Southern Illinois.

Gregory Echenique added 12 points and 11 rebounds and the Bluejays (18-3, 7-2 MVC) were 12 for 20 from 3-point range with Ethan Wragge hitting his first four attempts and Jahenns Manigat going 4 for 4. Creighton also dominated on the boards with a 39-19 cushion and has won 10 straight in the series while shaking off setbacks at Wichita State and Drake.

Desmar Jackson scored Southern Illinois' first 10 points then later on went 21 minutes without scoring before finishing with 16 for the Salukis (8-12, 1-8). Southern Illinois has lost nine of 10.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) - Trey McKinney Jones scored 15 points for the Miami Hurricanes, and the Atlantic Coast Conference leaders won their seventh game in a row by beating Florida State.

The blowout victory before a capacity crowd was the second in a row for the 25th-ranked Hurricanes, ensuring a significant jump in Monday's poll. They drubbed No. 1 Duke on Wednesday.

Miami (15-3, 6-0) is off to its best start in the conference, alone atop the standings, and is 9-0 at home. Florida State (11-8, 3-3) fell to 0-3 this season against ranked teams.

The Seminoles endured repeated long scoring droughts against Miami's man-to-man defense and shot a season-low 31 percent.

Miami has not allowed an opponent to shoot better than 50 percent from the field this season. Michael Snaer went 2 for 5 and was held to four points, 10.5 below his average.

Redskins guarantee Alex Smith a whopping $71 million in new contract

When the Redskins traded for Alex Smith on January 30, news also broke that he had agreed to a four-year extension with Washington in addition to the one year left on his contract with the Chiefs. While we got some top-line numbers on the deal, we have gone since then without any details.

Until now.

The details show a deal that has a slightly higher cap hit in 2018 than was on his original Chiefs contract and the numbers rise gradually over the life of the deal, which runs through 2022.

Smith got a $27 million signing bonus and his salaries for 2018 ($13 million) and 2019 ($15 million) also are fully guaranteed at signing making the total $55 million (information via Over the Cap, which got data from a report by Albert Breer).

But there is another $16 million that is guaranteed for all practical purposes. On the fifth day of the 2019 league year, his 2020 salary of $16 million becomes fully guaranteed. He almost assuredly will get to the point where that money will become guaranteed since the Redskins are not going to cut him after one year having invested $55 million in him. So the total guarantees come to $71 million.

His 2021 salary is $19 million and it goes up to $21 million in 2022. There have been reports of some incentives available to Smith, but since we have no details, we’ll set those aside for now.

The cap hits on the contract are as follows:

2018: $18.4 million
2019: $20.0 million
2020: $21.4 million
2021: $24.4 million
2022: $26.4 million

The Redskins can realistically move on from Smith after 2020. There would be net cap savings of $13 million in 2021 and $21 million in 2022.

The first impression of the deal is that the Redskins did not move on from Kirk Cousins because they didn’t want to guarantee a lot of money to a quarterback. The total practical guarantee of $71 million is second only to Cousins’ $82.5 million. It should be noted that Cousins’ deal runs for three years and Smith’s contract is for five.

Justin Timberlake shows he has game at Wizards practice court

Apparently Justin Timberlake is also good at sports. The pop star showed he has a pretty decent jumpshot while playing on the Wizards' practice court on Sunday ahead of his concert at Capital One Arena.

Timberlake knocked down a halfcourt shot and then two three-pointers in a row. It was all shared on video through his Instagram account and then tweeted by the Wizards.

Wizards owner Ted Leonsis was among the many to attend Timberlake's concert and he put out a series of pictures and videos on social media:

Timberlake is also, of course, an NBA owner himself. He holds a minority stake in the Memphis Grizzlies. No wonder he's good at basketball. He can use their practice court any time he wants.
