The Capitals (35-8-3, 73 points) are finally back on the ice to take on the Philadelphia Flyers (20-18-8, 48 points) tonight at Verizon Center (8 p.m., NBCSN). Here are our AAA Keys to the Game:
Where the Caps stand: The Caps have played the fewest games in the NHL but hold a 10-point lead over the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference standings and a 14-point lead over the Rangers in the Metro Division. They’ve won seven of their last eight.
Where the Flyers stand: The Flyers have lost three straight to fall to seventh in the Metro standings, seven points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins, who hold the final wild card spot.
Injury update: John Carlson is back in the lineup for the Caps after missing the previous 12 games with a lower body injury. He’s skating on a pairing with Nate Schmidt. The Flyers are without goaltender Steve Mason, which means former Caps netminder Michael Neuvirth will face his old team for the first time.
Alzner iron man: Karl Alzner officially becomes the Capitals’ iron man by playing in his 423rd consecutive game, passing Bobby Carpenter’s mark of 422.
Here are lineups for both teams:
