Defenseman John Carlson is undergoing an MRI today to determine the severity of his lower body injury and is questionable for tonight’s game against the Buffalo Sabres at Verizon Center (6:30 p.m. pregame, CSN).
Carlson saw his 412-game playing streak ended Monday night in Buffalo when he sat out the Caps’ 2-0 win with a lower body injury.
Meanwhile, center Zach Sill, who was recalled by the Capitals on Tuesday afternoon, is expected to replace center Michael Latta on a fourth line with left wing Brooks Laich and right wing Andre Burakovsky.
Latta injured his arm in a fight with Nicolas Deslauriers Monday night. The fight was in response to Deslauriers’ hard hit on Justin Williams in the second period. Deslauriers celebrated his win over Latta by thrusting his arms in the air, which angered the Caps’ bench.
Sill is no stranger to dropping the gloves and many believe his callup was a direct result of Deslauriers’ fight with Latta, who was on the ice Wednesday morning as an extra forward, along with Stan Galiev.
Here are the Caps’ projected lines and defense pairings for tonight:
Alex Ovechkin – Nicklas Backstrom – T.J. Oshie
Marcus Johansson – Evgeny Kuznetsov – Justin Williams
Jason Chimera – Jay Beagle – Tom Wilson
Brooks Laich – Zach Sill – Andre Burakovsky
Karl Alzner – Matt Niskanen
Nate Schmidt – Dmitry Orlov
Taylor Chorney – Connor Carrick
Braden Holtby – Philipp Grubauer
