One day after Bryce Harper was ejected for mouthing off to umpire Brian Knight and was later seen yelling an obscenity at him during the Nats' walkoff celebration, manager Dusty Baker addressed whether he believes his star player will either be fined or suspended by Major League Baseball.
Harper returned to the field after getting ejected, which is not allowed by the league.
And Baker wouldn't be surprised or disagree with MLB if Harper was punished.
"He deserves something, a fine or something, to me," Baker said.
Baker then continued to defend Harper's actions.
"Who's not going to come out on the field to celebrate a game-winning home run? I mean, what do you think we are? Like, robots that don't have feelings? Probably what he did and said was wrong. But, I mean, how many people say and do wrong things every day? Plus, I'm not the judge here. And I'm not going to help the judge."
The best quote from Baker on the subject, however, dealt with Harper's temperament and whether the reigning MVP needs to be more careful.
"I have no problem with Bryce. I happen to like the young man, not because he's a heck of a ballplayer. But I happen to like him, period. Know what I mean? Now, will I have to spank him sometimes? Maybe."
That's just a great quote.
