In the world of Stephen A. Smith, being excited about a crucial home win over a divisional opponent is a terrible deed, and one that should be answered by a blistering hot take.
So that's what the ESPN talking head responded with on First Take after seeing video of some Redskins defensive lineman celebrating Sunday's victory against the Eagles.
"You’re the champions of the NFC East," Smith said (h/t to Dan Steinberg). "You’re going to literally walk through a locker room, through the hallways en route to your locker room, bragging, bragging about the fact that we’re the real champions of the NFC East. What, do you want a cookie? No wonder y’all are losers."
Losers, huh? Well, Washington hasn't really been losers recently; they're winners of four straight and are 11-5 since the You Like That Bowl. Smith made it clear, though, that's not what he was attacking in his rant.
The issue he has with the team is that they apparently exhibit "a loser's mentality."
"You have been inept, you have been nonexistent," Smith said. "When’s the last time you’ve won a Super Bowl? We talk a lot about the Dallas Cowboys — when’s the last time the Redskins have been relevant in the championship equation of things?"
Well, Chris Baker — one of the guys in the videos that ignited Smith's explosion — eventually got word of the words the analyst was saying. Here's what No. 92 tweeted after digesting Smith's opinion:
Ricky Jean-Francois also saw it, and also chimed in with a tweet:
If the Redskins win in Detroit next week, they better leave the field in a single file manner while speaking at nothing louder than a whisper. If they don't, they may be the subject of another Smith diatribe, and nobody wants that.
The full transcription of Smith's comments — and there's plenty more to unpack — can be found here.
