Redskins linebacker London Fletcher likes the idea of moving training camp from Ashburn, Va. to Richmond, Va. because it will help build camaraderie within the team.
Oh man, thats too far down the road, Fletcher said during a press conference. But I kind of like the idea of going away for camp.
Richmond, two hours away from Ashburn, is located in the heart of Virginia. With players and coaches farther away from their homes, and large cities like D.C., the move will isolate players from outside distractions - allowing them to focus more on football, and bond.
Youre just spending more time with each other as opposed to with the camp being here, Fletcher said. Guys hang out after night meetings - maybe play some pool, play some cards, things like that.
Under a Richmond-based training camp, players will live in dorms or nearby hotel rooms, instead of heading home after practice. Also, while Richmond is a well-sized city, it wont offer nearly as many distractions nor does it have a huge party scene like D.C.
It really forces guys to spend more time with each other, said Fletcher.
