The Redskins week that was
My weekly look at five of the post popular posts this week along with some additional commentary:
Doctson's short tweet delivers good news for Redskins—There may be no player the Redskins need to come through for them more than Josh Doctson. It’s a long way from tweeting “100%” after a March workout with Kirk Cousins and some other receivers at Jon Gruden’s facility in Tampa to getting it done on the field starting in September. But it’s a good sign and the Redskins will take all of those they can get these days.
Redskins starters quick hitters—Kelley, Lauvao top depth chart, for now—Included in here are a few lines about the possibility of former QB Terrelle Pryor taking some snaps from the Wildcat formation. A couple of days later Jay Gruden downplayed the idea of Pryor taking snaps. But if you do have some tentative plans for the Wildcat you don’t want to broadcast them at this point. It’s the kind of thing you work on in the couple of weeks before the season starts after practices close to the fans and media. Despite what Gruden said I'd be surprised if we went though the season without seeing Pryor behind center at some point.
Exclusive: Allen answers questions on McCloughan firing—Well, yes, Allen did answer questions about the former GM but he really didn’t impart much information. It seems to me that everyone has their own ideas about how things went down and barring something more definitive coming out it’s probably best to just move on from it.
Ignore the rumors, Allen clears up plan for Cousins in 2017—This is another area where a lot of words added up to very little additional clarity. It still seems as though he will stay around in 2017 and beyond that is anybody’s guess. We might get some more clarity during the draft. If the Redskins take a quarterback early we can pretty well surmise that Cousins is headed elsewhere in 2018.
Redskins starters quick hitters, defense—Year 3 huge for Preston Smith—Skepticism at safety is going to last until we are several games into the season at least. We don’t know if Cravens can make the switch from nickel linebacker to strong safety and we don’t know if D.J. Swearinger can play free safety in base defense. And we won’t know until they actually do it. But if they can, the Redskins may be settled at safety for the next few years, something that hasn’t happened in, well, forever.

A reader commented on the possibility of the Redskins' new stadium ending up near Dulles Airport in Loudoun County.
Perhaps not perfect. But it’s like with a player—Loudoun is available while other “perfect” spots, like RFK, are not. Gives Loudoun an edge— Rich Tandler (@TandlerNBCS) March 31, 2017
