Here is what you need to know on this Monday, December 1, six days before the Washington Redskins play the St. Louis Rams at FedEx Field.
Colts 49, Redskins 27 notes and numbers
—Colt McCoy passed for 392 yards against the Colts, a career high. He also set a career high in touchdown passes with three.
—Only 12 other times since 1960 has a Redskins quarterback thrown for more than 390 yards in a game (linked chart may not yet have McCoy’s performance on there yet as they update on Mondays). It’s a pretty impressive list of nine different names.
—In those 12 Redskins performances, only two players also threw three or more touchdowns and had no interceptions--Joe Theismann against the Raiders in 1983 and Mark Rypien vs. the Falcons in 1991.
—Since the start of last seasons, 14 other quarterbacks have had at least 390 yards and three touchdown passes with no interceptions on a. They went 13-1 in those games. The only quarterback to put up such a game in a losing effort was ex-Redskin Jason Campbell against the Patriots last December. I don't know if that's significant but it's interesting.
—In any case, Andrew Luck was far more impressive. He averaged 13.7 yards per completion, the best average yards per attempt of any quarterback with at least 25 attempts in a game since 1986.
—Ryan Kerrigan got a sack, giving him a career best 9.5 for the season. But perhaps more importantly, he forced a fumble when he sacked Luck. That gives him 13 forced fumbles for his career, tying Ken Harvey and Wilber Marshall for the second-highest career total. Only Charles Mann, with 17, has more.
—Since he came into the league in 2011 only four players have forced more fumbles than Kerrigan.
—The 49 points the Redskins surrendered were the third most they have given up in a game since the 1970 merger.
—The Redskins again were ineffective on third downs, converted just five of 15. That actually moved their conversion percentage for the year up a tenth of a tick from 32.6 percent to 32.7.
—Today’s schedule: Open locker room player availability 11:30; Jay Gruden news conference 3 p.m.
—Days until: Rams @ Redskins 6; Redskins @ Giants 13; 2015 NFL Draft 150
