Here is what you need to know on this Tuesday, October 14, five days before the Washington Redskins play the Tennessee Titans at FedEx Field.
Notes and quotes from Jay Gruden’s Monday press conference
—CB David Amerson will undergo concussion testing today. The results of that will determine his practice status on Wednesday and subsequent tests will determine his playing status on Sunday against the Titans. E. J. Biggers took his spot opposite Bashaud Breeland and Chase Minnifield pulled nickel corner duties.
—LB Perry Riley missed the Cardinals game with a knee sprain and he is day to day. Will Compton played in his place on Sunday.
—S Ryan Clark (ankles), LB Akeem Jordan (knee), LB Brian Orakpo (ankle), S Trenton Robinson (ankle), and OT Trent Williams (knee) all suffered aggravations of existing injuries. Some may be limited in practice but all should be available for the Titans game next Sunday.
News you need to know
—DE Stephen Bowen and WR Leonard Hankerson are expected to start practicing on Wednesday after having spent all season on the PUP list. The Redskins will have three weeks from the day that they start practicing to decide if they want to activate them or move them to season-ending injured reserve.
—Robert Griffin III will start individual drills in practice on Wednesday and might start taking full team reps next week. The timetable for him returning to game action is uncertain.
—Although he didn’t say it directly, Gruden indicated that he has been disappointed in Brian Orakpo’s production this year. “Obviously, he’s probably disappointed with his production,” he said. “We would’ve thought he would have more production—a forced fumble or two or three and a bunch more sacks.” Orakpo has a half sack this year and not forced fumbles.
—Despite Kirk Cousins’ struggles, Colt McCoy will not be moved into the starting quarterback job until Griffin can play. “No,” he said when asked if he was considering going with McCoy. “We’re going to go with Kirk again.”
—Today’s schedule: Off day, no availability
—Days until: Titans @ Redskins 5; Monday night Redskins @ Cowboys 13; Redskins @ Vikings 19
