The Redskins took an early lead against the Rams, got a bit of a scare in the second half, but pulled away with a late touchdown to beat the Rams 24-10
The Redskins got it done with a lot of work on the ground. Matt Jones, playing in his second NFL game, rushed for 123 yards on 19 carries with two touchdowns.
Washington won a game that Kirk Cousins started and finished for the first time since 2012. The quarterback was an efficient 23 of 27 for 203 yards, a touchdown and, perhaps most importantly, no interceptions.
The Redskins took a 17-0 lead into the locker room on the strength of a Matt Jones touchdown run and a four-yard scoring pass from Kirk Cousins to Pierre Garçon. But they couldn’t generate much in the third quarter. St. Louis scored twice, the second time after a Matt Jones fumble, to make it 17-10 entering the fourth quarter.
But the Redskins nailed it down with a 12-play, 77-yard drive in the fourth quarter that ended with a bruising Jones touchdown run.
The Redskins set the tone early. On their second possession, Alfred Morris found running room to the left to pick up 35 yards into Rams territory. Two plays later, Jones took a handoff and raced down the left sideline to put the Redskins up 7-0. It was a lead they never relinquished.

2 plays, 49 yards. 54 seconds

A few plays later they converted a third and two on a 29-yard pass from Cousins to Reed. A 15-yard facemask penalty moved them into the Redskins and Jones powered it in for the score a few plays later.
