Scot McCloughan did not travel with the Redskins staff to the NFL Scouting Combine last week, and on Tuesday, the general manager was not at Redskins Park as free agency nears, a source confirmed to CSN.
McCloughan's status with the team continues to cause confusion.
When the GM didn't attend the combine, the official word came that he was tending to family matters and would be back with the organization once that situation had been cleared up.
Tuesday marked the unofficial beginning of free agency, as teams and player agents were allowed to officially begin talking and negotiating new deals, though players are not allowed to take visits until Thursday at 4 p.m. No deals can become official until Thursday either.
Personnel selection boils down to two areas: free agency and the NFL Draft. McCloughan missed the centerpiece event leading up the NFL Draft last week, and now, appears to be missing key preparation for free agency.
The Washington Post first reported McCloughan's absence on Tuesday.
