Biggest Names in NBA Trade Rumors
Big names on the trade block?
The NBA trade deadline is at 3 p.m. on Thursday, February 18. That means teams have a matter of hours to pull off whatever trades they think they need to either make a postseason push or start the rebuilding process. Here are 10 of the biggest names mentioned in trade rumors leading up to the deadline. This gallery will begin updating as teams start making moves.
DeMarcus Cousins - PF, Sacramento
An All-Star big man who's had conflict with the coach of his struggling team, Cousins shouldn't be surprised to hear trade chatter about himself. “I can’t control the trade (rumors) and I can’t control if I’m traded or not,” Cousins told Pro Basketball Talk when asked about the possibility. “But I do want to be in Sacramento, and I know everybody in Sacramento knows that.”
Blake Griffin - PF, L.A. Clippers
The Clippers packaged Griffin (who is recovering from hand surgery) with Lance Stephenson in a trade offer to the Denver Nuggets in return for Danilo Gallinari, Kenneth Faried, Will Barton and Nikola Jokic, according to ESPN's Chris Broussard.
Al Horford - C, Atlanta
The Hawks find themselves in 5th place in the Eastern Conference and are seriously considering blowing up their roster. Just one year removed from a 60-win season, the team could make All-Star center Horford available before the trade deadline, reports ESPN.
Jeff Teague - PG, Atlanta
Teague was the first Hawk rumored to be available. The Knicks reportedly reached out to the Hawks about him last month, but didn't have the pieces necessary to get a deal done. New York still hasn't given up its pursuit of Teague, though, sources told Marc Stein and Brian Windhorst of ESPN.
Carmelo Anthony - SF, New York
On the Friday of All-Star Weekend, talk of a potential trade involving the Knicks, Cavaliers and Celtics included Anthony, but was dismissed quickly as the All-Star insisted he's "not going anywhere." Anthony has no intention of waving his trade clause, at least not this season, reports the New York Daily News.
Ricky Rubio - PG, Minnesota
Rubio has become available with the emergence of Zach LaVine in Minnesota. As for the Knicks, Phil Jackson is looking to upgrade point guards for a playoff push, but may not have the assets necessary to pull off a trade for Rubio, according to the New York Daily News.
Markieff Morris - PF, Phoenix
Morris has expressed a desire to be traded, but the Suns have not been enticed by proposals offering a first-round pick for him, reports The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Hassan Whiteside - C, Miami
Trade talks between the Heat and Rockets involve swapping Whiteside for Howard, according to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News.
Dwight Howard - C, Houston
Howard's name has come up repeatedly as on the trade block. Frank Isola of the New York Daily News reports that the Rockets and Heat have discussed a trade that would send Howard to Miami in exchange for Hassan Whiteside.
Kevin Love - PF, Cleveland
The Cavaliers have insisted they won't trade Love right now, but have made it known that if they do decide to part ways with him down the road, they would only accept another star in return. A group of draft picks and rotation players wouldn't cut it, report Marc Stein and Brian Windhorst of ESPN.
