The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski dropped a nugget this week about how the 76ers plan on dealing with the big man combination of Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor.
The Sixers have had periodic trade talks this summer involving Noel and Okafor and plan eventually to move one of them, league sources said. Philadelphia doesn’t believe the two players’ talents are complementary.
This was clear watching the pair together last season.
Okafor has legit post moves, but the paint gets clogged offensively since Noel's best scenario is hanging around the rim for dunks or putbacks. Defensively, Noel's shot blocking is strong. Okafor chasing NBA power forwards is not. Therefore, it makes sense one of them goes*.
[*If you're on the CSNmidatlantic.com's Wizards, you're probably wondering if your local NBA team has a shot at either Noel or Okafor. My response: Anything is possibe, but at this point, doubtful. The Wizards essentially have $28 million invested at center during each of the next three seasons in Marcin Gortat and Ian Mahinmi. Even if Washington was willing to move, it's unlikely Philadelphia would want a center in return. That the 76ers are rebuilding makes adding an older player -- both Gortat and Mahnimi will be at least 30 this season -- even more unlikely. If a third team gets involved or the Wizards dangle Kelly Oubre Jr. or Otto Porter, well, who knows. Of the two, Noel would be the more interesting fit with Washington's roster.]
So, if you're the 76ers, who goes? We'll see.
This short video posted by a fan of 76ers coach Brent Brown at Sunday's Eagles home NFL game provides absolutely no illuminating information. Well, except for perhaps who plays where next season if both Noel and Okafor return.
Cute video and again, it means nothing.
However, if we want to read into this, that Brown answered the question aboout which position Noel plays next season, maybe, maybe shows he's the one Philly hopes to keep.
