2017-18 NBA Rookie of the Year rankings
6. Kyle Kuzma, Lakers
Rank Last Week: No. 4
Kuzma is shooting just 37 percent over his last five games, including 26 percent from three, after shooting lights out from there mid-December on.
5. Dennis Smith, Jr.
Rank Last Week: No. 6
Smith continues to look better on both ends of the floor, scoring in double-figures for the sixth consecutive game in Tuesday's win over the Magic.
He's still having his shooting issues, which happens with rookies, but his athleticism and continued growth, along with better health, has him climbing our ranks.
4. Jayson Tatum, Celtics
Rank Last Week: No. 3
The Celtics haven't lost since Christmas, and Tatum has been a big reason for that.
Despite not getting the same amount of chances as some of the other rookies on this list (sixth on the Celtics in shot attempts), Tatum is third in scoring for Boston and has started al 43 games he's played in so far.
3. Lauri Markkanen, Bulls
Rank Last Week: No. 5
Markkanen has averaged 17.2 points per game in January and been incredibly efficient in the process, shooting 56 percent from the field, and 50 percent from three.
The Bulls have fallen back into their losing ways, which is expected during what is still supposed to be a rebuilding year, but Markkanen is really finding his rhythm as we head into 2018.
2. Donovan Mitchell, Jazz
Rank Last Week: No. 2
Mitchell continues to show the NBA he has the chance to be a legit star.
He continues to lead the Jazz in scoring (18.5) and is second in steals (1.47).
Oh, and there's literally no one he's afraid to dunk on either.
1. Ben Simmons, Sixers
Rank Last Week: No. 1
17.8 points per game over his last five games, and four of those are wins for Philly.
Simmons continues to be the frontrunner to win Rookie of the Year.
