Luis Palomino ends Lewis Gonzalez's night with a devastating knee to the head
August 10, 2014, 1:15 am

Luis Palomino and Lewis Gonzalez entered the WSOF 12 event with a chance to move up in the lightweight division and take one step up on the ladder of challengers to Justin Gaethje’s championship.

The two exchanged blows throughout the first round, with Gonzalez sustaining a cut on his forehead. With under 30 seconds left in the round, Palomino landed a stiff leg kick that stunned Gonzalez who couldn’t brace himself for what was coming next, a knee to the head that would end Gonzalez’s night as referee Herb Dean stopped the fight almost immediately.

You can bet Gaethje was keeping a close eye on this one as it might be only a matter of time before Palomino gets a chance at the title.

The co-main event of the evening was a light heavyweight fight between Ronny Markes and Cully Butterfield. Butterfield was about five seconds away from ending the fight in the second round as he had Markes’ back and was pounding away with numerous headshots, but Markes moved around just enough to avoid a stoppage and made it to the bell.

Markes would go onto win the third round thanks to an impressive display of striking and was awarded a unanimous victory by the judges.

Kelvin Tiller walked into his middleweight fight against Elvis Mutapcic with an unblemished 6-0 record, but did not walk out of the cage with it as Mutapcic won the fight by unanimous decision. You can watch the highlights of the fight here.

In a flyweight contest, Alexis Vila took on Brandon Hempleman. Vila landed more power strikes in the fight, but Hempleman got the win by a unanimous decision due to his ability to control the action in the cage. Watch the highlights of the fight here.

Matt Sayles was almost knocked out in the first round by Bryson Hansen, but rebounded in the next two rounds to win the opening fight of the WSOF 12 card by a unanimous decision. Watch the highlights of the fight here.
