Charles Barkley nails the ethos of Philly sports fans on Lane Johnson's podcast

Sports fans tuning in to watch the NBA return on Thursday night were thrilled to see Charles, Shaq, Kenny, and Ernie back talking ball after the games. There's nothing quite like that crew.

Philadelphia fans were also treated to another dose of Chuck on Friday night when Barkley joined Eagles tackle Lane Johnson on his Outside The Lane podcast. The two fan favorites talked a lot about Sir Charles' path to the NBA and much more.

But a standout portion of the pod was when Charles perfectly nailed the ethos of the sports fan in the city of Philadelphia.

"Everybody can't play in Philly, or New York, or Boston. It takes a special person from a mental standpoint. They demand a lot. If they see you loping, especially if you're not winning, they're gonna hand your ass to you," Barkley said.

"Philly is a very difficult city to play in. You have to have a strong mindset. The one thing I give them credit for, if you just work hard, they'll give you your respect. But if they see you out doing stuff you shouldn't be doing and you're playing bad, you're not going to last there long."

Chuck then goes on to tell the story of a guy he played with who would intentionally get into foul trouble early in games so he could go to the bench where the fans would leave him alone.

"We didn't know whether to laugh or cry, because he was sincere. He was in pain. He was like, 'I can't take what these fans are saying to me. Once I go to the bench, they're not screaming stuff at me.'"

Johnson rounded out the conversation nicely.

"The good thing about it, as stressful as it is, it's also a great motivator. It will motivate you like no other to go out there and play well," Johnson said.
