  • PHI Wide Receiver #6
Smith was never really a risk to miss Week 4. The third-year receiver popped up on Thursday’s injury report with an illness, but was back on the field Friday to close things out. Smith should have a shot at WR2 production against the Commanders despite an underwhelming Week 3 outing against the Buccaneers.
  • LAC Running Back #30
Ekeler practiced throughout the week but appears unlikely to go in Week 4. With a Week 5 bye week on tap, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Chargers rest Ekeler to give him two more weeks off before ramping him up in Week 6 against the Cowboys. If Ekeler is out, Joshua Kelley will once again serve as the Chargers’ RB1, although he’s underwhelmed to the tune of 24 rushes for 51 yards over the last two weeks. Kelley would be a volume-based RB2.
  • SF Wide Receiver #11
Aiyuk has been limited in every practiced throughout the week and has a good chance of playing in Week 4 against the Cardinals. Aiyuk’s return could be crucial for the 49ers, as Deebo Samuel (ribs/knee) has yet to practice this week and is at risk of missing the game. Aiyuk could operate as the 49ers WR1 if he’s active and Samuel is held out, which should be enough to lock him in as a top-24 play this week.
  • SF Wide Receiver #19
Samuel has not practiced all week despite being ruled as day-to-day by head coach Kyle Shanahan earlier this week. Samuel is nursing multiple injuries suffered in Week 3’s win over the Giants, and is at legitimate risk of missing Sunday’s Week 4 matchup against the Cardinals. We’ll see what kind of injury designation he carries heading into the weekend, but things are off to a sub-optimal start.
  • BAL Wide Receiver #7
Odell Beckham will also miss Week 4. That puts Nelson Agholor in the WR2 chair for Baltimore. Agholor has nine catches for 102 yards and a score over the past two weeks. He will enter the mix as a WR4 for Week 4. Bateman was playing a limited role to start the year and is now banged up, likely forcing the team to keep him on a pitch count whenever he returns. Fantasy managers can cut him loose on the next run of waivers.
  • DET Wide Receiver #9
In an unexpected turn of events, the league revised it’s gambling policy on Friday, shortening the suspension for first time offenders caught betting on non-NFL games from inside team facilities from six games to two games. This was the exact violation that saw Williams get suspended for six games earlier this offseason, but the revision has resulted in the league opting to reinstate Williams early. Players who bet on NFL games will now receive a one-year suspension. Betting on your own team is a two-year suspension and match-fixing is a lifetime ban. Williams can now rejoin the 3-1 Lions who currently rank eighth in points per game (26.5) and seventh in passing yards ahead of the team’s Week 5 matchup against the Panthers. Titans OT Nicholas Petit-Frere, also suspended for gambling, had the remainder of his suspension nixed by the league as well.
  • NO Quarterback #4
Carr returned to practice on Friday and apparently looked good when throwing the football. In his press conference, Dennis Allen reiterated that the team’s medical staff isn’t concerned with him making the injury worse by playing, so his status simply comes down to how effective he can be. Carr is a true coin-flip to play in Week 4. If he can’t go, Jameis Winston will draw the start.
  • LV Quarterback #10
The good news is Friday marks the second-consecutive practice for Garoppolo. The bad news is head coach Josh McDaniels said earlier on Friday that Garoppolo was still in concussion protocol, meaning there’s still a chance he doesn’t suit up in Week 4 against the Chargers. He still has time to clear concussion protocol, making his status one to monitor heading into the weekend. If he’s unable to go, Brian Hoyer is expected to draw the start.
  • LAR Wide Receiver #10
When Kupp begins practicing the team will have a 21-day window to get him back on the field. McVay said earlier in the week that “the hope” is Kupp will return in Week 5, but the Rams can keep him sidelined for a few more weeks before playing him. His practice status will be one to monitor next week, but at least we know his return is nearing.
  • CIN Quarterback #9
Burrow was a full participant in practice throughout the week. Though he’s likely playing at less than full strength, things do appear to be trending in the right direction for Burrow. He remains in the QB1 mix in a great matchup versus a weak Tennessee second.
