2019 NFL Draft: 49ers rewarded sixth-round compensatory pick, No. 212

Share

The 49ers officially picked up a sixth pick for the upcoming NFL draft with the announcement of the league’s compensatory selections.

In addition to their other five draft selections, the 49ers will also receive a sixth-round selection, No. 212 overall, as part of the league’s compensatory formula, in which teams are awarded draft picks for net losses in free agency.

The league compensatory pick formula is based on salary, playing time and postseason honors.

Last offseason, the 49ers lost free agents running back Carlos Hyde, defensive end Aaron Lynch, guard Brandon Fusco, tight end Logan Paulsen and cornerback Leon Hall. In return, the 49ers signed running back Jerick McKinnon and center Weston Richburg.

The league’s collective bargaining agreement limits the number of compensatory picks each year to 32. According to the NFL, the 49ers and five other teams qualified for compensatory selections under the net loss formula but will not receive those picks because the final numerical values of the compensatory free agents who were lost by those clubs ranked Nos. 33 through 39 among the final numerical values of all compensatory selections. However, the 49ers and the other five teams receive compensatory selections for other free agents lost.

Since 1994, the 49ers have received 31 compensatory picks, ranking ninth in the NFL.
