The rosters have been set for the 2019 Senior Bowl, and the 49ers coaching staff will have an opportunity to get hands-on experience with invited seniors in this sizable event of the pre-draft process.

While defensive end Josh Allen is a late scratch from the event, the 49ers will get to work with six other defensive ends that could help bolster the pass rush.

Montez Sweat of Mississippi State is one of the defensive end standouts that Shanahan and his staff will coach. He recorded 22.5 sacks in his final two seasons after transferring from Michigan State.

Another prospect of interest on the South’s roster could be defensive end Jaylon Ferguson. He recorded 45 sacks over his four years at Louisiana Tech, 17.5 of those in his senior year.

The 49ers also need to add depth at wide receiver and in the secondary as both of those positions were notably depleted at the end of the 2018 season.

They will coach two notable safeties: Johnathan Abram from Mississippi State and Juan Thornhill from Virginia.

Abram had a very productive senior year after transferring from Georgia. He recorded 99 total tackles, 53 of which were solo. He also had nine tackles for a loss and three sacks.

Thornnhill registered 98 total tackles, 62 of which were solo. He also intercepted six passes with an average run back of 23.5 yards.
