49ers comply with NFL's minimum-spending rule

The 49ers are more than $41 million under the NFL’s salary cap, but the organization has nothing to worry about when it comes to spending the league minimum during the soon-concluding four-year period.

Under the NFL collective bargaining agreement that was ratified in 2011, each team was required to spend at least 89 percent of the salary cap in cash during a four-year period from 2013 through ’16.

The total salary cap per team during that period was $554.55 million, according to the NFL Players Association. The minimum each team was required to spend is $493.55 million.

The 49ers are comfortably above that mark with a total spending of $514.488 million, according to the NFLPA.

However, only three teams spent less cash than the 49ers: Oakland ($491 million), Carolina ($495 million) and New England ($500 million). The Raiders have until the end of the league year in March to comply with the league's minimum cap spending.

The average NFL team spent $544.9 million in cash during this current four-year span, the NFLPA reported.

The next four-year period in which teams must spend at least 89 percent of the total salary cap begins next year and runs through the 2020 season.
