There’s having some scoop, then there’s having the scoop, if you know what I mean.
That’s exactly what 49ers tight end George Kittle had when he found out he made history by becoming the highest-ranked tight end in the 10-year history of the NFL Top 100. He landed at the No. 7 spot. And he found out from one of the main news breakers.
“[NFL Media's] Ian Rapoport text me on Wednesday and said ‘Hey, lowkey, but this is what you got ranked,’” Kittle said recently on Pardon My Take.

Kittle was pretty stoked that he got his own scoop from one of the big NFL insiders himself.
“That was sick,” Kittle added.
Sure was.
Kittle also was the highest-ranked 49er on the list since Aldon Smith, who also was ranked at No. 7, in 2013.

Rapoport might have given the deets to Kittle, but I think we all figured this would happen, and it’s well-deserved, and this is probably a bit more of an honor since it’s the players who vote for the best in the league for this list.
Kittle's own teammates, of course, all cheered him on for the honor as well. None of them were surprised, but wide receiver Kendrick Bourne said Kittle is about to "break the bank soon.”

Fair. Kittle looks to be the highest-paid tight end of all time. That means he’ll be making some more lists of his own.
Across three seasons, Kittle totaled 2,977 yards and 12 touchdowns earning two Pro Bowl selections and an All-Pro honor.
