49ers GM John Lynch explains re-signing Ronald Blair in free agency

Ronald Blair was an important piece of the 49ers’ defensive line entering 2019.

The fourth-year player had 21 tackles and three sacks before being placed on injured reserve in November with a knee injury.

The 49ers were not interested in letting Blair leave in free agency, officially re-signing the 27-year-old on Monday.

"We are thrilled to have agreed with Ronnie Blair to continue with the Niner family," 49ers general manager John Lynch said. "Ronnie is a great teammate, who has developed into a key contributor to our defense. His versatility and playmaking ability along with his strength of character off the field make him special. Ronnie's work ethic makes us confident he will return to form this season."

With DeForest Buckner being traded to the Indianapolis Colts this offseason, there will be ample opportunity for Blair to step up and get quite a few more snaps in 2020.
