49ers have QB options to pursue in offseason, Garcia says

Aaron Rodgers, a San Francisco 49er? Maybe. That should be an option according to NBC Sports Bay Area analyst Jeff Garcia.

Is it possible the 49ers go after a guy in the offseason to replace a struggling Jimmy Garoppolo? It appears to be headed that way. Garcia highlighted Rodgers as a possibility.

“Aaron is one of the best at being able to lengthen plays,” Garcia said on the latest "3-Step Drop" segment. “Even though he’s getting up in age, he can still buy time when everything else breaks down around him.”

Rodgers has the ability to navigate within the pocket in order to let certain plays develop. As Garcia states, that could prove important while the rest of the offense breaks down. Yes, Rodgers will blow out 37 candles on his next birthday cake, but that’s not a factor.

Still, the eight-time All-Pro Bowl quarterback also has been more dangerous outside the pocket because “once he breaks contain, it’s hard for cornerbacks to cover off schedule,” Peter Bukowski, Packers writer for SB Nation told NBC Sports Bay Area.

Plus, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is running a version of Shanahan’s offense in Green Bay already, so the transition to San Francisco wouldn't take long for Rodgers.

Bukowski adds Rodgers is flourishing in that offense this season.

With the recent setbacks Jimmy G has been dealing with involving injury and mediocre play, the speculation has begun swirling.

Garcia also mentioned Dallas Cowboys’ Dak Prescott as an option along with Atlanta Falcons’ Matt Ryan.

Ryan is an interesting possibility because of his connection to Shanahan, and has been mentioned before as a 49ers possibility.

Between the Falcons wanting to possibly build around assets acquired in a trade, the money factor and the team sitting at 3-6 on the season, a Ryan-Shanahan reunion doesn't seem far-fetched.
