The 49ers have one open roster spot that the team is expected to fill this week with a running back.
Raheem Mostert sustained a season-ending fractured forearm last week in the 49ers’ 34-3 victory over the Raiders. That left Matt Breida and Alfred Morris as the only two running backs on the team’s 53-man roster.
The 49ers could promote either Jeff Wilson or Matthew Dayes from the practice squad.
The team this week held workouts with 14 players, including running back Jeremy Langford, according to NFL reporter Howard Balzer.
Langford, 26, was a fourth-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears in 2015. In two seasons, Langford (6-foot, 211 pounds) appeared in 28 games. He carried 210 times for 737 yards (3.5-yard average) with 10 touchdowns.
The 49ers reportedly held workouts with the following players:
Quarterback: Jack Heneghan (Dartmouth), Nic Shimonek (Texas Tech) and Logan Woodside (Toledo).
Running back: Jeremy Langford (Michigan State).
Tight end: Ben Koyack (Notre Dame) and Marcus Lucas (Missouri).
Linebacker: Travis Feeney (Washington) and James Onwualu (Notre Dame).
Cornerback: Alex Carter (Stanford), Michael Jordan (Missouri Western State) and Tarvarus McFadden (Florida State).
Safety: Marwin Evans (Utah State), Nick Orr (TCU) and Terrell Williams (Houston).
